With more than a decade of experience in the strata industry, JM (John Martin) founded Bettr Strata to offer a more transparent, practical approach to strata management. After years working in corporate strata, he saw firsthand where systems failed owners, committees, and staff — and where better decision-making could make a real difference.

JM leads Bettr Strata with a focus on clarity, accountability, and people-first service. His approach is grounded in simplifying complex processes, maintaining strong governance, and supporting both clients and the team to deliver consistent, reliable outcomes.

JM remains closely involved in the day-to-day oversight of client schemes.

JM intentionally manages a select number of schemes, allowing him to remain closely involved and maintain a consistently high standard of service across every owners corporation.

JM’s background includes senior leadership roles beyond strata, including general management in fire protection. This gives him a strong grounding in building safety, risk management, and contractor oversight.

As strata managers, we get it – your home is your happy place. But we also know that for many in our community, having a safe and secure place to call home isn’t always a reality. That’s why we’ve teamed up with Wollongong Homeless Hub and Housing Services.

For every property we manage, we’ll send some love their way with a donation to support those who are doing it tough. As we grow, so does the contribution we make to a more compassionate and supportive community.

Making the switch

Changing strata managers is more straightforward than most owners expect.

In a nutshell:

IF YOU’RE ON THE STRATA COMMITTEE

If you’re on the strata committee and have concerns about your current managing agent, start by discussing them with the committee. If there’s agreement that a change is needed, a meeting can be arranged to formally address the issues and consider appointing a new manager.

If you're not on the Strata Committee

If you’re not on the strata committee, you can still raise concerns. Start by contacting the committee to outline the issues you’re experiencing.

If the matter isn’t resolved, owners can request that a proposal for a new managing agent be considered by the committee and, if appropriate, tabled at a general meeting of the owners corporation.

We always encourage a transparent process. Any change should be handled openly and professionally, with clear communication throughout. If you need advice or a proposal, we can assist.
